Celebrating World Blood Donor Day and Safeguarding the Future of Blood Supply

Today, June 14, we celebrate World Blood Donor Day, an important occasion to express gratitude to all blood donors. This day also highlights the ongoing need for blood donations to ensure a safe and abundant supply of high-quality blood and blood products for patients in need.

We congratulate and encourage EU citizens to donate blood!

The Blood Transfusion Association (BTA) recognises the paramount importance of maintaining a safe blood supply, which encompasses the safety of donors and the quality of donated blood. The BTA Members demonstrate an unwavering commitment to responsible practices by diligently adhering to existing EU, national, and international laws that comprehensively regulate the sector. By adhering to these laws and the EDQM and ECDC guidelines, BTA’s Members actively minimise potential risks, ensuring the highest safety standards.

Additionally, it is crucial to promote equal opportunities for all potential donors and eliminate blood donation discrimination. By constantly exploring innovative approaches and staying at the forefront of technological advancements, we strive to provide the safest environment for blood donation and transfusion. Therefore, the BTA actively advocates for including processing technologies in the ongoing proposal for a SoHO Regulation to mitigate risks and ensure the highest safety standards for donors and patients.

Collectively, we can make a lasting impact on the health and well-being of our communities. We can save lives and build a healthier future by spreading awareness, encouraging regular donations, and supporting safety-focused initiatives.

Donate blood, donate plasma, share life, and share it often!
